ALLEGANY — Bonaventure Square officials got a step closer to breaking ground for the $65 million project during a two-hour meeting Monday for the Town of Allegany Planning Board.

Near the end of the meeting for the project, the planning board agreed to schedule a public hearing at 7 p.m. June 8. The hearing, slated to be held at the Allegany Senior Center on Birch Run Road, will give residents an opportunity to voice comments on the project’s site plan application as well as any part of the project that concerns them. Planning board officials said it may be held in conjunction with the town board public hearing on the matter.

The proposed $65 million project, when completed, will be located on Route 417 across from St. Bonaventure University on the former Castle property. The university and Ross Wilson & Associates Inc. made proposals a couple of years ago to town of Allegany and Cattaraugus County elected officials for the development of the complex. General contractor for the project will be Kinley Construction Co. of Allegany.

During the meeting, the planning board and its consultants presented a list of issues and concerns with the project they would like to see addressed.

Craig F. Marlatt, executive vice president with Ross Wilson and Associates, said his company will address all of the issues presented, and expects ground-breaking for the project will take place in August.

“The reality we have to live with ... is that we have to have most of these buildings in phase one opened by August of next year,” Mr. Marlett said of the 2012-13 school year.
