OLEAN, NY — One of the first planned renovations at the Manufacturers Hanover Building will put the 96-year-old property in a new kind of light. Literally.
During Wednesday’s regular meeting of the Urban Renewal Agency (URA), its members approved an $81,000 project to replace all the lighting fixtures in the 96-year-old building with energy efficient equipment.
But the upgrade to the building’s lighting comes at little cost to the URA, as National Grid will foot 70 percent of the bill.
Under federal regulations, all energy providers are required to reduce energy consumption by 15 percent by 2015. Failure to comply with such regulations will result in fines and “require us to find other energy sources,” explained Robert Trembath, a National Grid representative, at the agency’s meeting.
